Mike's Story

Modeling Resilience one step at a time...

On November 13, 2022, Michael "Mike" Hollins found himself in what he thought was a nightmare. Three University of Virginia football players, Lavell Davis Jr., Devin Chandler, and D’Sean Perry, tragically lost their lives to a gunman during a school trip. Mike, their brother, found himself fleeing from the bus but returned to help, only to face the gunman at the bus's door. He was shot in the back, narrowly avoiding paralysis. After three days in the ICU and two surgeries, he miraculously walked again, despite him fighting for his life, just days before. However, the news of his brothers' deaths weighed heavily on his heart. Determined to honor their memories, Michael returned to play in the Spring game and subsequent season, wearing their numbers and carrying their names in his heart.

With this tragic event only a year behind him, and still navigating the intense healing process through his faith, family, and therapy, Mike has intentionally sought to share his testimony of tribulation and triumph.
